Who am I?My name is Jakub Niedzwiedz, and I'm a prolific sound engineer working both live and in studio. Despite graduating only last year, my experience exceeds a hundred of recording sessions and as many mixed songs, working on many different genres. I'm a trained musician and have a Master's degree in sound engineering. In 2019, I won a Bronze Medal in the AES Student Recording Competition.
My approach to mixing music
While many mixing engineers tend to put emphasize on the technical side of the job, my main focus is the music itself. First, I would listen to the rough mix or unmixed, only roughly volume balanced tracks and pay attention to the standout elements of the song. My main goal would be to take them to the next level. It might be a chorus, a guitar solo, a transition to the final chorus or maybe just some beautiful backing vocals. Then, I would build the whole mix around these musically most important elements. Don't worry though - your mix will still be technically professional and up to modern standards.
